Who we are
Eyesha
My name is Eyesha Mingo. I’m a full-time student working towards a BA Hons in Creative Writing and Music. I have worked with East End Opera on the Newham Vocal Pathways Course in 2008 and was very pleased to be invited back as a Vocal Support Volunteer for the Our Voice One Voice workshops.
I attend the workshops purely because I enjoy being within a musical environment; learning and practicing various vocal and performance techniques, in order to develop as a performer, vocalist and teacher.
I feel extremely comfortable in the workshops as the other singers and participants are always positive and supportive, which definitely contributes to the great atmosphere we have each session.
As a Vocal Support I’m hoping to further develop my own vocal technique and confidence through supporting the younger members of the group as we explore a variety of repertoire for future performances and sharing opportunities within the workshops and externally. Above all, I hope to enhance my voice and performance confidence, in order to record a solo demo later on in the year.
Jesse
My name is Jesse Ayertey and I am very pleased to be part of the Our Voice One Voice workshops.
I joined the East End Opera project because I love to sing and I know I need to improve. Being part of these workshops has exceeded my expectations. I have a huge love and passion for music and I am always looking for ways to develop my knowledge of music. The workshops help me through breathing exercises, vocal warm ups and other exercises that help develop all round performance skills.
Vocal lessons are quite expensive and most of the time young people like myself would not get the privilege of lessons because we can't afford them, but the Our Voice One Voice project meets this need offering the same level of professional training for free to young people in the area and the only requirement is that we are dedicated to the work. By the end of this project I would like to have more control and more understanding of my voice, increase my vocal range and take my vocal performance to a high level.
Another part of this project which excites me is the fact that we will have the chance to take part in a performance where we get to showcase all we have learnt. Performing in front of people gives me great joy and it is something I have always loved. I really appreciate the fact that will get a chance to perform through working on this course.
My Goal is to be able to perform, to teach and share music with people to the best of my abilities. I have really enjoyed my time so far.
Stefan
Hi my name is Stefan Vitalis.
My interest in music came whilst I was growing up in St. Lucia. Although, the facilities for music and the arts were not readily available there this fascination carried on until I came back to London and completed my GCSE in Music.
By participating in the Our Voice One Voice workshops I am sure I will further develop my vocal range and my interpretative skills in singing. These are realistic aims as I feel that the classes so far have been helping my voice and my understanding of music.
In the future I would enjoy leading other choirs and becoming more involved with local singing and voice focused community projects. Already with these workshops I am gaining the opportunity to become more confident in singing and I will have opportunities to lead the group in the workshops and in learning songs.
This is a great experience not be missed as we are working with top class leaders, who are training us to be top class performers.
